SUMMARY:Nevada QSO Party
DESCRIPTION:http://nvqso.com\nNevada QSO Party – Oct 12 – 14\, 2018\nThe Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Society is proud to present the Nevada QSO Party which will be an annual event on the second full weekend in October. This year it will start at 2000 hours Nevada time (PDST) on Friday\, October 12 (0300z 10/13/2018) and run until 1400 on Sunday\, October 14 (2100z 10/14/2017) \nThe objective of this contest is to activate and work all 17 of the counties in Nevada. Nevada stations will work anyone\, anywhere\, and out of state stations will work Nevada Stations. All stations may be worked up to three times on each HF band and once on the VHF+ frequencies. Rovers in Nevada and the two other states\, Arizona and Pennsylvania\, can be worked again when they change counties. \nThe VHF+ band will consist of all legal frequencies from 50 MHz up to 1300 MHz. In order to bring a lot of new hams into contesting\, we are allowing the use of repeaters on these frequencies. There are linked systems which will allow out of state contacts. All modes will be allowed with the exception of the WSJT modes. \nOn the HF side\, Phone\, CW\, and Digital modes will add multipliers to the QSO points. All conversational digital text modes are allowed with all counting the same. Currently the WSJT modes do not have a contest exchange message that is handled as a valid regular message\, so those modes are not allowed. (This may be changed if this is added to the WSJT modes in the future) \nLogging software\nLogging software from N1MM\, N3FJP\, and WriteLog will have the ability to work on this contest. For those that are using paper and pencil or some other logging method that does not produce a Cabrillo file\, we also have the WA7BNM Cabrillo log maker which will allow you to build a Cabrillo file. All entries over 10 contacts must submit an electronic Cabrillo log.

The first CQP took place in 1966. Since 1974\, the Northern California Contest Club (NCCC) has sponsored CQP. CQP has traditionally opened the annual contest season by providing an opportunity for contesters to prepare for the ARRL November Sweepstakes since the format is similar. \nStations outside of California\, worldwide\, work stations in California only. The 58 counties of CA are the multipliers. California stations work all stations in or out of CA. The 50 US states and 8 Canadian areas are the multipliers. Stations outside of Canada and the US add to one’s QSO total but do not count as multipliers. See the full set of CQP Rules for more details. \nOn this site you will find lots of information\, so peruse the index above and learn all about the California QSO Party! Also\, be sure to visit the NCCC website for the latest scoop on a super contest club. \nBefore CQP:\nReview the current County Operating Plan for CQP 2018\nPlease “Register-Your-County” (county listing of active stations and form for CA stations to input their county plans)\nRead The 2018 Rules (will be updated in July 2018)\nRead CQP Operating Strategy\, by K6RB\nAfter CQP\nSend In Your Log Before The Deadline: 23:59 UTC MONDAY\, OCTOBER 22\, 2018\nStart HERE (TBD)\nNOTE: See the Rules page for submitting via email.\nAfter you submit your log\, you can check to be sure it’s listed on the CQP server: HERE (TBD) \nCQP T-Shirts – Like the wine\, each year’s T-shirt is a special vintage. Ours is an economically disadvantaged district in an otherwise affluent area. 4 out of Every 10 Students Receive Free or Reduced Lunch. Our science and math teachers and students are very excited about hosting an ARISS contact. \nOne special characteristic of our school district is a STEM magnet program in one of our grade schools. The students from that school help carry a great enthusiasm for STEM and the maker movement into the middle school and share it with the student population at large. Our science curricula include atmosphere\, include layers\, and weather\, biology including the effects of gravity versus micro-gravity\, climate\, coding and robotics in an after school program\, history with how the constellations and planets got their names\, geography including land forms and tectonics\, soil and erosion\, making model lunar rovers\, exploring re-entry for orbital launch vehicles\, making and launching rockets\, and a number of activities around waves\, including sound and radio. \nWe have established contacts with the local print\, radio and televisions stations\, as well as a social media community of more than 1\,000 active participants. We’ll have a sequence of events\, with press releases and online reminders building up to the event. We will also engage our local cable channel and our very active Next-door communities. \nParticipants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: \n1. How does being in space affect your body’s overall health?\n2. What is it like when you see spacecraft launch from earth and how does the\nspacecraft attach to the space station? Is it like a jet way for a plane?\n3. What does it feel like after you’ve been in space with no gravity and you\nare back on earth?\n4. Do you become light headed in space?\n5. Is it common to have to fix things on the space station\, either on the\ninside or the outside of the station.\n6. Do you have to wear special shoes inside the space station? What are they\nlike?\n7. When the falcon heavy launch carrying the Tesla that SpaceX launched into\nspace have you seen the Tesla yet?\n8. What is it like to live without gravity? What is the worst part? What is\nthe best part?\n9. Is space food good or bad? Is drinking water like blowing then eating\nbubbles?\n10. Do you get TV and internet in space?
